The OCASA Pension Corporation Board of Directors has appointed Pierre Giroux, a retired administrator and OCASA member, to the CAAT Pension Plan Board of Trustees.
Mr. Giroux has previously served as the OCASA representative on the CAAT Pension Plan Sponsorship Committee for five years, and one three-year term on the CAAT Pension Plan Board of Trustees.
This board position, for a three-year term, is rotated between OCASA, OPSEU Academic and OPSEU Support Staff. In the position, the appointee’s responsibility is to the functioning of the plan, independently of the appointing body.
In accepting the appointment, Mr. Giroux joins two others appointed by the OCASA Pension Corporation. Rick Helman, Director of Financial Planning at Loyalist, begins a second three-year term on the Sponsors’ Committee on Jan. 1, 2010; and Duane McNair, Director, Finance and Administrative Services at Algonquin College, is currently serving his second three-year appointment to the Board of Trustees until June 30, 2012.
Mr. Giroux began his career at Algonquin College in 1970, where he was professor and later coordinator in the Social Service Worker and Travail Social programs. In 1980, he was named chair of the Media Studies program, and later held a variety of administrative positions. He retired in 2000 from his post as Consultant, Planning and Educational Support Services.
In his previous appointment to the Sponsorship Committee, Mr. Giroux was instrumental in the development of the CAAT Pension Plan investment strategy, using the veto power of a major sponsor in the process.
He has been involved in the development and delivery of a number of leadership training programs both within the college system and in the corporate sector internationally.
In collaboration with a steering committee, he helped design Orientation Program for new Governors of the Ontario Colleges and facilitated the delivery of that program to two groups of new Governors.
He is fluent in both English and French, and was actively involved in OCASA prior to retirement, and continues as a retiree member of OCASA.
